Introduction

Spend three days in beautiful Boulder, Colorado!

This leadership course will offer participants the techniques and resources necessary to design and implement their own ½-day or full-day education workshop for scientists.

The course content is based on 10 years of experience in providing successful workshops, seminars, and conference sessions for scientists in education.

Who Should Attend

Education and Public Outreach (E/PO) leads and E/PO managers who are tasked with providing scientists (e.g. at their home institutions or on research science teams) with meaningful ways to contribute to E/PO efforts.

If you are not an alum of SSI's 4-day Education Workshop for Scientists, Engineers, and E/PO Professionals, then you will need to provide evidence of experience with and understanding about:  The National Science Education Standards,  inquiry-based approaches in science education, how people learn, attributes of exemplary science curriculum, the various domains of science communication (e.g. formal, informal, public outreach, media).

On request, we will provide a reading list that forms the knowledge base expected of all participants in this workshop.  This workshop is about learning to do a workshop on education for scientists.  Familiarity with important basics in education is an important pre-requisite for all participants.

Participants are also strongly encouraged to apply in teams of two from each organization. Experience shows a greater impact and more effective post-workshop implementation of best practices when colleagues can attend the course together. Please consider bringing a colleague!

What This Workshop Can Do For You

  • Deepens your knowledge about how to design and implement effective workshops about education and public outreach for E/PO staff and scientists at your home institution.
  • Creates opportunities for networking with other E/PO leads engaged in similar activities and programs.
  • Provides the techniques and resources necessary to design and implement your own ½-day or full-day education workshop for scientists.
